I know it is an older thread, but let me get back into it. I am currently a happy user of 1Password (7); I have started the yearly subscription not a long time ago. I have been using it for 3 different devices and it works well. However, I must admit that I only recently found out that you actually give the possibility of purchasing a single license for the program instead of the yearly subscription and the price of a single license is comparable to that yearly fee.
The yearly fee is not cheap but I accepted it so far, but now I have to ask myself the question what am I really buying that I would not get with as single purchase fee. I saw some angry comments on the Mac App store on the subscription change, and one of your colleagues posted a link to a blog which (I presume) gives some explanation:. Alas, that URL goes to a 404, I presume this is due to you guys have changed your blogging environment. Is there somewhere a page that gives a clear comparison of what one buys with the yearly subscription vs. A one time fee? I may well stay at my current setup because, as I said, I am otherwise a happy customer, but I would prefer to have a clear set of information.
Thank you Ivan Herman. Hi The regular price of a standalone license is $65 USD plus any applicable taxes and covers one person for one version of 1Password on one platform. For example, a 1Password 7 for Mac license allows one person to use 1Password v7 for Mac and any in-version updates. It does not include a hypothetical 1Password 8 for Mac or any version of 1Password for Windows.
It also does not include access to our 1Password.com service (which means no access to 1Password X, the 1Password CLI, or the my.1password.com web interface). When using 1Password standalone you alone are entirely responsible for configuring any syncing or off-site backups you wish to happen with a 3rd party service (i.e. Dropbox or iCloud). We do not store your encrypted 1Password data. There is no support for securely sharing data with another person. Additionally there is absolutely no way to reset or recover a forgotten Master Password for a standalone vault. With membership you get access to all of the latest versions of 1Password on all platforms.
We also have multi-user options such as 1Password Families and 1Password Business. These options allow for secure sharing of 1Password data. Membership also becomes the sync and off-site backup service: no manual configuration required. Everything is automatically synced between your devices simply by signing into your account. Additionally your data is stored off-site (as well as being cached locally on each of your devices) so a disaster like a fire, flood, loss or theft of a device, damage to a device, etc does not result in the total loss of your 1Password data.
This also includes the 1Password.com service which allows for the use of some of our newer offerings like 1Password X and the 1Password CLI. It also provides the web interface. With a multi-user membership it is possible another administrator on your membership can help recover a forgotten Master Password.
Unfortunately individual memberships do not have this option. We are never able to assist someone with recovery (beyond providing instructions for how to do so). We did indeed recently change blogging platforms. Much of the content has been carried over but some has not, or at least not yet. Our content team is working hard on bringing over anything that is still applicable. I think the most pertinent posts to what you're asking about would be these two:. We are no longer actively marketing the standalone offering.
You won't see it mentioned on any of our marketing pages. We do still make it available for customers who are comfortable with the aforementioned terms, who know that is what they want, and are comfortable with the 'DIY' aspect that comes along with it. 1Password.com is the way forward and is the best way to use 1Password. I hope that helps clarify the situation, but if you have any further questions we'd be happy to help. Hi, I'm so confused with 1P v7. I know this is probably a dumb question and just to confirm what I've read, does a stand alone purchase for 1P v7 work on all my Apple devices or just one only?
I've been a 1P user for many, many years (I love it & don't want to change) & am currently using V6.8.9 for my MacBook Pro, iMac, iPhone & iPad all of which are running the current IOS. Further, if my understanding is correct the cost of v7 will be a one oft cost until you invent v8 in the future and then I would have to pay again? Apologies for my lack of comprehension.
